About

Tara Cooperman-Valk is a writer and retired physician whose work explores caregiving, grief, identity, and the lives we build after everything changes.

Her work grew out of years spent caring for her mother through serious illness, including a heart attack, terminal cancer, and the final stages of her life. These experiences became the foundation for Still Becoming: A Memoir of Caregiving, Loss, and What Remains, her first book.

Tara writes essays about caregiving, anticipatory grief, emotional labor, loss, and the quieter changes that happen when responsibility becomes part of identity. Her work appears on Medium and Substack, with additional writing and updates shared through social media. She is also the creator of the Still Becoming Companion Guide Series, a collection of free resources for caregivers and people rebuilding their lives after caregiving and loss.

At the heart of all of her work is one question:

Who are we after the role that defined us begins to change?
